Lloyd,s register audit——PAUT、TOFD technique

      On July 16, 2018, Lloyd,s register conducted on-site audit and technical exchange on our company,s phased array testing technology. The on-site audit content was divided into two parts, one part was the content audit of the testing procedure, and the other part was the practical operation audit of the testing technology.

      一、The audit of the testing procedure

  

     1.The audit of the PAUT procedure
     First of all, our staff will demonstrate the content of phased arraytesting procedure to the Lloyd,s register experts, company leaders and relevant personnel. In the process of the procedure demonstration, Lloyd,s register experts raised questions about its application scope, the model specimen specifications and the communication service with the owner. For these problems, our company has conducted positive communication with Lloyd,s register experts, and finally reached a consensus conclusion with Lloyd,s register experts.

     In the process of communication, Lloyd,s register experts also put forward some problems in the practical application of phased array testing technology to test our company personnel,s theoretical knowledge of phased array testing technology, and their understanding and master ability of practical operation. By combining theory with practice, our company has provided professional solutions, which have made Lloyd,s register experts satisfied and highly praised.

     2.Add TOFD technical content

     After the audit of the PAUT, Lloyd,s register experts mentioned that the project needs to use the TOFD technology, so suggest add TOFD technology content in the procedure and combine the two technologies and verify them together. This proposal coincides with the idea of our company, and the two sides immediately communicate and agree on the content, situation and other issues of TOFD technology that need to be added.

     Our company also has great confidence in TOFD testing technology. Because our company has the successful TOFD testing performance, such asC20K-1 container ships,C20K-  2 container ships, wind power projects etc. These projects have also been unanimously recognized by ship owner and ship surveyor.

     二、The audit of the testing technology

   

     1.The practical operation audit of PAUT

     According to the requirements ofLloyd,s register experts, our company technical personnel on a flat plate and a pipe respectively demonstration for phased array operation, its operations content include: input workpiece weld information, select the probe/ wedge/ scan type, set the focus rule, calibration the speed of sound, wedge delay and sensitivity, make the TCG curve, compensation debugging, select encoder, scanning, for detecting image comparison analysis, saving data and setting, and so on.

     2.The practical operation audit of TOFD

     Because the TOFD technique content should be added in the procedure content audit, so the TOFD practical operation was also audit. The operation contents include: selecting probe/ wedge, determining focus depth, calculating PCS, measuring front, recording probe delay, assembling probe, adjusting time window, adjusting direct pass wave height, selecting and calibrating encoder, scanning, data storage, etc.

     3.Question& Answers

     Lloyd,s register experts conducted a rigorous review of the operationsof the two technologies and took photos record. During the operation, the experts asked questions to the operator from time to time, and the operator replied according to the actual situation on the site, the reply was satisfactory to the Lloyd,s register experts and recognized the operation and strain capacity of our personnel.

     三、Technique communicate

     After the completion of the whole audit, theLloyd,s register expertsalso invited our technical staff to visit its factory office and conducted in-depth discussions on TOFD and PAUT technologies, which enabled our staff to have a deeper understanding of these two technologies and the determination to actively explore them.
